Spem in Alium with The Cardinall’s Musick

On the 20th November, to a packed Cathedral, members of St. Peter’s College Choir joined The Cardinall’s Musick, and Christ Church Cathedral Choir in two performances of Thomas Tallis’ Spem in alium. Spem in alium is a remarkable motet, scored for 40 voices. During the concert, the Choirs sang the musical text twice: once to the ‘original’ Latin text, and once to an English text, applied to the music around 1610, for the installation of Henry Frederick, as Prince of Wales.
